Newscard December 2015

Dec 03, 2015

Do you ever wonder where the time goes?   ***  As ALMP ends another year of service to the people of Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex Counties, some of our volunteers will be at the Barnes & Noble store in New Town (Williamsburg) participating in a fundraising event by wrapping  gifts (for a donation) purchased by B&N customers.  If you are buying books, toys or puzzles for someone  on your Christmas list, consider doing it on December 13, 16, or the 18th and we’ll wrap it for you.  The donations will help ALMP maintain our free services for adults who want to improve their  education.  ***  If you are a fan of silent auctions, please remember the Christmas Stocking Boutique now in progress at the Courthouse Restaurant on Main Street in Gloucester.  That will be going on until December 19th.   If you want a handmade stocking, you may find it there.  ***  ALMP is fortunate to welcome 4 new students: 2 preparing for the GED and 2 who have enrolled to develop stronger reading and math skills.  ***We also welcome as a new volunteer, Garrett, who first volunteered with the 5K and is completing the online training to become an academic volunteer.  ***  Please remember that there are changes to the library schedule in December due to holiday related events.  The Main Branch of GCL is closed on Saturday, December 5 (the Gloucester parade) and the weeks of December 21st and 28th , the library closes at 5:00 PM and will be closed December 24, 25 and  January 1st.  ***  The Mathews Market Days Spelling Bee sponsored by ALMP will be very different in 2016 … it will be held on the Main Stage at 3:30 PM on September  10th.   In addition to awarding “spelling bee” medals, the top spellers will receive prizes.  ***  The meetings for the month:  12/02: GCRC, 12/04: NP @ MIH, 12/17: MCRC.  ***  Enjoy being with family and friends during the holidays.  Thanks for all you do for ALMP.
