Newscard June 2015

Jun 09, 2015

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is now behind us and Carson represented ALMP well!  He finished in a tie for 215th place out of the 11 million spellers who competed, worldwide.   Being at the Bee is always an overwhelming experience with 283 spellers there with the hope of going home as the Champion.   ***  Earlier in May (11) ALMP completed another Silent

Apron Auction with the Blue Ribbon going to Martha Donlevy.  We are grateful to all those who made aprons, those who bid and purchased the aprons and to the Courthouse Restaurant for being the host for the event.  Thanks to each and all of you! ***  Next on the agenda is the Annual Meeting, June 16 @ the Mathews Active Lifestyle Center, Buckley Hall Road @ 7:00 PM.  Everyone is welcome to attend; this is the time when we present the “state of the organization.”  There will be a report regarding the Gloucester-Mathews Spelling Bee season in addition to the required business reports of the organization.  Please save the date and come.  ***   Good news … ALMP has been awarded the National Book Fund Grant   This is very good news for us because if means that ALMP will receive more than $2400.00 in books needed to teach our programs and because of our membership in ProLiteracy, the cost of the books is 10% of their value.  ***  Join ALMP at Gwynn’s Island Festival on June 27 (9:00 – 3:45).  ***  Meetings for June:

GCRC: 06/03, Annual Meeting: 06/16, BAH: 06/18, MMD: 06/25, SALT Co.: TBA.  ***
